Overview

Mount up your horse for a fantastic holiday with a difference. Over seven days this excellent horse riding package will take you through some of Alberta’s most beautiful landscapes, including Bow River, Allenby Pass and the Sundance Ranges. Beginning and ending in Banff, you’ll be riding along spectacular trails and staying in charming lodges en route.

One night in Banff, followed by one night at the Sundance Lodge, then three nights at Halfway Lodge, and a final night on the return ride at Sundance Lodge. (TM/JV)

Day 1

Arrive at Calgary International Airport and then transfer to Banff.

Overnight: Banff Caribou Lodge or similar

Day 2

This morning at 9.30am you’ll assemble with your guides and the other travellers in your group at Warner Stables. Then you’ll mount up on your horses for a 16km ride to Banff Sundance Lodge. Along the way, you’ll ride past the topaz Bow River, sweeping Healy Pass, and the calm Brewster Creeks. You will have a relaxing evening and overnight at the Sundance Lodge. Lunch and dinner are included.

Day 3

Today you’ll be riding your horses southbound along the historic Storm pack trail, travelled by the renowned explorer Erling Storm. The soaring Sundance Ranges will be your backdrop during this full-day ride, which comes at an end upon arrival at the Halfway Lodge. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.

Day 4

In the morning you will be riding up Allenby Pass, following a rocky track through picture-perfect landscapes at every turn. The path ascends to an elevation of 2,470 metres (over 8,000 feet), so you’ll see the region’s natural beauty from a great height, before returning to the lodge in the afternoon when you can relax and enjoy this beautiful setting. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.

Day 5

Enjoy a day at leisure. Spend your day enjoying the surroundings of the lodge at your own pace, either by taking a stroll through the grounds, taking a laidback fishing excursion (additional charge), or riding to the sparkling, glacier fed lake. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.

Overnight: Halfway Lodge

Day 6

Embark on your ride back to Sundance Lodge, tracing the Storm pack trail and riding next to the towering Sundance Range on the way. The afternoon is free for you to sit back and enjoy the lodge’s western-style settings, before tucking into a final dinner with your hosts. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.

Overnight: Sundance Lodge

Day 7

Enjoy a peaceful ride in the morning, plus lunch on the trail, before arriving back at Warner Stables in Banff, where your tour ends and return to your hotel.

Overnight: Banff Caribou Lodge or similar

Day 8

Morning at leisure and then transfer (included) back to Calgary airport for your flight home.

You will need to pack the following items: warm coat, rain gear, warm shirts, jeans, riding boots, an extra pair of shoes, water bottle, wide brimmed hat, gloves, scarf, sunscreen, camera and a flashlight

Limited supplies of full-length oilskin riding coasts are available to rent at $7 per day – please request at time of booking

You will not be permitted to take bags or backpacks on the ride. Saddlebags must be used and are available to rent for $2 per day and must be reserved at time of booking.

All items not travelling with you in your saddlebags must be packed in a soft bag, and will travel separately to the lodge. If you have luggage you do not want to take with you on the trek, there are secure storage lockers available at the Warner Outfitters Banff office.
