Churchill, Manitoba is arguably one of the best places to encounter polar bears. Resting in the sunshine and the tundra’s vibrant fireweed during the months of July and August, and then waiting by the bay late October and hunting seals through to November, these times of year present the greatest opportunity to see these magnificent creatures in the wild.
The best way to see them is by hopping on a tundra buggy, a huge vehicle that travels across the wild landscape with ease, and offers a safe way to get right up close to the polar bears. Most have an outdoor platform at the back, for even more amazing views.
Whether you see them in the summer, enjoying the t-shirt weather and purple fireweed, or in the winter when the plains are covered in snow, seeing these incredible animals out in Churchill’s wilderness is an unforgettable experience.
