Overview

Due to popular demand, this new 9-night itinerary has been created with additional departures for 2017. You will begin the tour in the vibrant city of Vancouver and then board the Rocky Mountaineer for a “once in a lifetime” trip on this iconic train. Sit back and be waited on whilst you enjoy the contrasting scenery as you travel to the Rockies. You will have two days on board the train, then it’s time to get off and explore the beautiful national parks of Banff and Jasper, and the magnificent Lake Louise. RMR code 17LLIE

Details

Day 1

Arrive in Vancouver

Upon arrival into Vancouver, transfer independently to your hotel in this beautiful coastal city. If you would like, you can extend your holiday with adding a few extra nights in Vancouver before the tour, to give you the opportunity to really enjoy this vibrant city. You could also add on a trip over to Victoria on the waterfront of Vancouver Island, where you could go on a whale-watching excursion.

Day 2

Rocky Mountaineer to Kamloops

You will be taken from your hotel to the station to board the Rocky Mountaineer train for the first part of your adventure. En route you will pass through the beautiful lush countryside of Fraser Valley and the contrasting desert-like scenery of the interior. Keep your eyes open and camera ready for the torrid waters of Hell’s Gate in the Fraser Canyon. Arrive in Kamloops and you’ll be taken to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 3

Rocky Mountaineer to Lake Louise

This morning you will re-board the Rocky Mountaineer train for the spectacular journey into the Rockies. Enjoy another day of relaxing with good food and wine, all the while admiring the every changing scenery from the comfort of your seat. Arrive in Lake Louise, leaving the Rocky Mountaineers behind and prepare for the beautiful sight of one of the most photographed lakes in the world. You will stay for two nights in the Fairmont hotel set by the turquoise waters of Lake Louise

Day 4

Lake Louise

Today you will enjoy a full day at leisure, to enjoy the sights at your own pace. You can either take a stroll along the shores of Lake Louise, and get some great photographs of the waters with their mountain backdrop. You can also choose to take the gondola from Lake Louise up the mountain to nearly 7,000 feet, for some truly spectacular views of the mountains and lakes.

Day 5

Lake Louise – Icefields Parkway - Jasper

Today you will take a full day excursion heading north to Jasper, taking in the stunning Icefields Parkway en route. After leaving Lake Louise, you will arrive at the Icefield Parkway after about an hour, and then take a tour of the interpretive centre and then ride out to the glacier on one of the purpose-built Ice Explorer vehicles. You will have chance to see the Athabaska Glacier, before you return on the Ice Explorer to your coach for the remaining drive up to Jasper – two hours of spectacular Rocky Mountain scenery. You’ll be spending two nights in Jasper, so settle into your hotel before heading out independently to explore this charming town.

Day 6

Jasper

Today you will enjoy a Jasper Highlights Tour – taking in the beautiful sights of this National Park, the largest one in the Rockies, established in 1907. You will also have some leisure time to relax in one of the lovely cafes or restaurants and soak up the atmosphere.

Day 7

Jasper - Banff

Today you will take a sightseeing trip all the way south to Banff. Sit back and admire the stunning views of the Rockies, until you arrive in the lovely mountain resort of Banff. With a beautiful backdrop of the mountains, this charming town is designed for browsing the boutiques and lingering over a drink. You’ll have two nights here, so lots of time to explore.

Day 8

Banff

A full day in Banff to explore. You could opt for a wildlife sightseeing tour, to see deer, longhorn sheep, and if you’re lucky a bear. Or choose a cruise on magnificent Lake Minnewanka, where as well as taking in the scenery you will learn about the First Nation history and the geology of the region. You could also take a guided walk, or the more energetic could hire mountain bikes.

Day 9

Banff - Calgary

On leaving Banff you will take a tour up to the Banff Gondola – newly re-launched with a state-of-the-art visitor centre at the top of Sulphur Mountain. The beautiful ride to the top has great photo opportunities but at the top you will marvel some more over the sight of five mountain ranges. You’ll then continue of your way to Calgary. Here you will go to the top of the Calgary Tower, to see the sights of this cowboy city with the Rockies in the distance. Then check into your hotel for the final night of this tour

Day 10

Calgary – tour ends

Today you will either fly home or extend your holiday with a few more nights in Calgary to explore the area. The Heritage Park and Olympic Park in Calgary are well worth a visit. And there are several day trips from here, either to the Dinosaurs of Drumheller and the Badlands, or out to a ranch and the UNESCO World Heritage site of Head-Smashed-in-Buffalo-Jump, where you will hear the story of the hunting practice of the First Nations
