This is the ultimate Rocky Mountaineer rail holiday, combining two of their most iconic routes. Your holiday will begin and end in Vancouver, and throughout you will marvel at the contrasting and spectacular scenery of western Canada.

First take the "First Passage to the West" Rocky Mountaineer rail journey to spectacular Banff National Park. After visiting stunning Lake Louise, the Columbia Icefield and Jasper, you will then return west on the "Rainforest to Gold Rush" route. Highlights of this rail journey include awe-inspiring views of Mount Robson, an overnight stop in the gold-rush town of Quesnel and a visit to the charming mountain resort of Whistler. You will experience the very best views on the Goldleaf train service over 5 days. Travel in a two-level glass domed coach offering exceptional panoramic views of the scenery. Day 1

Fly to Vancouver

Arrive into Vancouver and make your own way to the hotel – after checking in, spend some time exploring the city at your own pace.

Day 2

Vancouver

Enjoy your day at leisure sightseeing, shopping and enjoying the restaurants and bars of this vibrant city, surrounded by beautiful coastline and impressive mountains. You'll find downtown Vancouver next to the waterfront with its magnificent Stanley Park and a variety of theatres, music venues and great shopping. From here you can visit Gastown or Granville Island, home of "improv" comedy and a popular indoor market.

Day 3

Vancouver to Kamloops

Settle in on the Rocky Mountaineer today and head from Vancouver to Kamloops, where you’ll pass through dramatic scenery changes of the surrounding regions. After journeying past Fraser River Valley, the peaks of the Coast and Cascade mountains and Hell’s Gate in Fraser Canyon, your day will conclude along the shores of the Kamloops Lake and into Kamloops itself. (Breakfast and lunch included)

Day 4

Kamloops to Banff

Continue east towards the province of Alberta and the majestic Canadian Rockies today, where you’ll once again be treated to breath-taking scenery through lakeshores, ranchlands and mountain passes. The highlights of today include Craigellachie (where the last spike of the Canadian Pacific Railway was driven), Kicking Horse Canyon and Rogers Pass, as well as the beauty of the snow-capped peaks of the Rockies. Your rail journey ends in the resort town of Banff this evening. (Breakfast and lunch included)

Day 5

Banff

This morning you are free the the charming town of Banff. Walk along Banff Avenue, the main street, lined with shops, restaurants, and galleries. How about visiting the Banff Park Museum to learn about the natural history of the area or taking the Banff Gondola to the top of Sulphur Mountain for stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Enjoy the hiking trails at the summit, or visit the interactive exhibits at the Banff Skywalk.

Day 6

Free Day In Banff

Today you will have an entire day to spend exploring Banff National Park on your own. Optional activities include soaking in the mineral pools at Upper Hot Springs, enjoying a nature walk on nearby mountain trails or playing a round of golf at the Fairmont Banff Springs.

Day 7

Banff to Lake Louise

This morning explore Lake Louise at your own pace. In the afternoon take a half-day tour into Yoho National Park, exploring Emerald Lake, Kicking Horse River and the natural rock bridge that spans it, and the Spiral Tunnels. The tour ends in Lake Louise – the rest of the afternoon can be spent at leisure.

Please note: While arrival at The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise will be approximately 1pm, scheduled check-in time is not until 4pm. In the event that your room is not ready, your luggage will be stored and you are free to enjoy the amenities of the hotel.

Day 8

Free Day In Lake Louise

Enjoy a free day in Lake Louise. Local activities include canoeing, hiking in the mountains or simply relaxing and taking in the magnificent views.

Day 9

Lake Louise to Jasper

Explore Banff and Jasper National Parks today on a sightseeing tour via the Icefields Parkway. One of the major highlights along the way is the Columbia Icefield which is one of the most accessible icefields in North America. You’ll have the opportunity to take a ride on an Ice Explorer to the middle of the Athabasca Glacier, followed by lunch (not included). You will arrive in Jasper later on in the afternoon.

Jasper

Enjoy Jasper at your leisure or how about booking some optional excursions to see the stunning Maligne Valley with it's awe-inspiring views of Maligne Lake on a cruise to Spirit Island?

Day 11

Jasper to Quesnel

Travel onboard the Rocky Mountaineer from Jasper to the rural town of Quesnel – the gateway to North Cariboo. You will pass the Rocky Mountain Trench and onwards to the rolling hillsides of British Columbia’s northern interior. The highlights on this route include the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies, Mount Robson, as well as the Yellowhead Pass and Moose Lake. The day ends passing through the town of Prince George and follows the Fraser River into Quesnel. (Breakfast and lunch included)

Day 12

Quesnel to Whistler

Head south today to the four-season resort of Whistler. The stunning and diverse scenery of this area is breath-taking, as your route takes you through the ranchlands of the Cariboo Plateau to Pemberton Valley. Highlights include Deep Creek Bridge (one of the highest railway bridges in the world), the shores of glacial-fed Seton Lake and Fraser Canyon. Your journey ends in Whistler, where the 2010 Winter Olympic Games alpine events were held. (Breakfast and lunch included)

Day 13

Whistler to Vancouver

Continue your journey from Whistler to Vancouver via the Rocky Mountaineer through the scenic ‘Sea to Sky’ region. This region includes the Cheakamus Canyon, Mount Garibaldi, Shannon Falls and the Coast Mountains, as well as spectacular views of Howe Sound. An afternoon meal is served onboard – upon arrival into North Vancouver, you’ll be transferred to your hotel in downtown Vancouver.

Day 14

Vancouver

Enjoy today at your own pace to unwind or plan your preferred activities at your convenience. Vancouver offers something for every interest, whether it's exploring the historic charm of Gastown, indulging in a dining experience in vibrant Yaletown.

Day 15

Vancouver

Your holiday ends with check-out from your Vancouver hotel and an independent transfer to the airport for your transatlantic flight back home. Alternatively extend your holiday in Vancouver or take a cruise to Alaska.
